I’ve Never Seen an Eclipse Get So Much Attention

It might be rare. It might be beautiful, but it has never been such a hot topic as it is now. At least not as far as I can remember.

Something strange is going on. For some reason, April 8, the day of the solar eclipse, has been at the center of several theories popping up on the internet. Also, NASA’s plan to launch rockets to study your upper atmosphere during the eclipse has gotten negative attention. CERN also had plans for their Large Hadron Collider which has been seen negatively by several people online.

Okay, so, for anyone who’s been living under a rock, there is a solar eclipse on Monday. Several states are in the path of totality. The last solar eclipse in which the path of totality came through the United States was in 2017.

Eclipses are not rare. There are at least two a year. So why all the hype about this one? Well, for starters, the timing. With the 2024 election coming up tensions are already high, especially considering how extremely polarized we are politically. Far-right Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene posted on X about the eclipse and caught wind of it.
